Ian Robertson and his Scottish Dance Band

Ian has been playing for Scottish Dance for more than 40 years although he insists he still doesn’t look old enough for that to be true!  Returning from working overseas in 2005, Ian formed his new band immediately and they quickly gained a following in the South of England and beyond.

Working most commonly as a duo or trio, the band is regularly praised for the energy and drive that they give to the dance floor.  If proof was ever needed that size isn’t everything, dancers often express surprise and pleasure that the band creates such a full sound from a small line-up.

The current regular line-up features Ian on accordion, with Heather Jeffery on fiddle and Ian’s son Tom Robertson on drums.  That means that two-thirds of the band meet the criteria for Youth Branch membership!

Strathallan Scottish Country Dance Band

Strathallan formed in January 2007, and quickly made a name for high quality and exciting dance music, and always with a cheerful smile! It’s a reputation that we’re proud to maintain as we continue to play across Southern England, into the West Country, Kent and further afield.

Our tune sets are regularly updated with a massive selection of both modern and traditional tunes from around the world. We are well known for being musicians who express happiness when playing, and we are known for our interaction with both dancers and MCs. Someone recently said “You can hear the smile in their music”.
